Ingredients
  

For the Cake

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cups unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1.5 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs Room temperature
  • 1 cup whole milk Room temperature
  • 0.5 cups vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water Careful, it's hot!

For the Frosting

  • 1 cup butter, softened Room temperature
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 0.5 cups heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Red food coloring To color frosting
  • Sprinkles or decorations For topping

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  • In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Add the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla to the dry ingredients and mix until well combined.
  • Slowly stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth.
  • Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

Frosting

  • For the frosting, beat the softened butter until creamy.
  • Gradually add powdered sugar and heavy cream while continuing to beat.
  • Add vanilla and mix until smooth.
  • Color the frosting with red food coloring to your liking.

Assembly

  • Once the cakes are cool, frost the top of one layer, place the second layer on top, and frost the top and sides of the cake.
  • Decorate with sprinkles or other decorations as desired.

Notes

Don't rush the cooling process! Frosting a warm cake is a recipe for disaster. Keep it cool, and you’ll be golden!
