  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg

Filling and Toppings

  • ½ cup jam (your choice — raspberry, apricot, etc.) Various flavors can be used.
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for dusting) Dust before serving.

Baking Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt together.
  • Add the softened butter and vanilla, and then mix until creamy.
  • Beat in the egg until fully incorporated.
  • Chill the dough in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes.

Cutting and Baking

  • Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface and cut out shapes.
  • Remember to cut an 'opening' on half of them for a classic Linzer look!
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes until the edges turn golden.
  • Let them cool before spreading jam on the bases and topping them with the cut-out cookies.
  • Finish with a dusting of powdered sugar.

Notes

Chill the dough for easier handling and better texture. Experiment with various jam flavors. Store in an airtight container for up to a week.
