Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt; set aside.
  • Cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in the eggs one at a time, then add the vanilla extract.
  • Gradually mix in your dry ingredients until just combined.
  • Fold in the caramel chips and optional chocolate chips.
  • Scoop dough onto the baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  • Sprinkle with flaky sea salt just before baking.

Baking

  • Bake for 10-12 minutes until the edges are golden.
  • Let cool for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
