Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  • In a separate large mixing bowl, beat the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until creamy.
  • Add the eggs, vanilla extract, and red food coloring, mixing until combined.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
  • Chill the dough in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.

Baking

  • Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough, roll them into balls, then roll in powdered sugar until well coated.
  • Place cookies on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges look set and the tops are crinkled.
  • Let them cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Chill the dough to help create crinkles. Use gel food coloring for a more vibrant red hue. Substitute half the butter with applesauce for a healthier option. Consider making mini versions for a cookie buffet!
