  • 6 pieces croissants, torn into pieces Use day-old croissants for better soaking.
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (such as Swiss or cheddar)
  • 1/2 cup cooked and crumbled bacon or sausage (optional) Can be omitted for a vegetarian version.
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh herbs for garnish (optional)

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla, salt, and pepper.
  • Grease a baking dish and layer the torn croissants.
  • Pour the egg mixture over the croissants, ensuring they are evenly soaked.
  • Sprinkle the cheese and cooked meat (if using) on top.
  • Cover the dish and refrigerate overnight.

Baking

  • In the morning, bake uncovered for 30-35 minutes or until golden and set.
  • Garnish with fresh herbs before serving.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven or microwave. You can also freeze the assembled dish before baking for up to a month.
