Ingredients
  

Patties

  • 1 pound ground beef Use lean ground beef for a healthier option.
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup onion, chopped
  • 1 unit egg
  • to taste salt and pepper
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil For frying the patties.

Gravy

  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced Feel free to substitute with shiitake or other mushrooms.
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce Use vegan Worcestershire sauce for a vegan version.
  • 2 tablespoons flour For thickening the gravy.

For Serving

  • as needed Creamy mashed potatoes Pair with steaks for a complete meal.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, egg, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined and form into patties.

Cooking

  • Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the patties and cook until browned on both sides. Remove from skillet and set aside.
  • In the same skillet, add mushrooms and sauté until softened.
  • Sprinkle flour over the mushrooms and stir to combine. Pour in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, stirring until the gravy thickens.
  • Return the patties to the skillet, covering them with the gravy. Simmer for about 10 minutes.

Serving

  • Serve the Salisbury steak with creamy mashed potatoes.

Notes

Store leftovers in the fridge for 3-4 days or freeze for up to 3 months. Reheat with a splash of broth for moisture.
