  • 1 pound Elbow macaroni or any shape you prefer
  • 4 tablespoons Butter for the roux
  • 1/4 cup All-purpose flour for the roux
  • 3 cups Whole milk for a creamy texture
  • 3 cups Shredded cheese a blend of cheddar, mozzarella, and gouda is recommended
  • 1 teaspoon Salt for seasoning
  • Black pepper to taste
  • 1 cup Breadcrumbs for the crunchy topping
  • Paprika a sprinkle for color (optional)

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Cook the macaroni according to package instructions until al dente; drain and set aside.
  • In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add flour and stir to form a roux.
  • Gradually whisk in the milk until the mixture thickens.
  • Stir in the cheese, salt, and pepper until smooth.
  • Combine the macaroni with the cheese sauce and mix well.
  • Pour into a baking dish and sprinkle breadcrumbs and paprika on top.

Baking

  • Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until bubbly and golden brown.

Notes

Serve with fresh parsley or steamed veggies. Pairs well with BBQ ribs or fried chicken. For variations, try adding cooked bacon or spicy jalapeños.
