Ingredients
  

Macaron Shells

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup almond flour
  • 2 large egg whites (at room temperature) Age the egg whites for better volume.
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Red or pink food coloring (optional)

Buttercream Filling

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar For buttercream.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract For buttercream.
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream or milk Adjust for consistency.
  • a pinch salt
  • Red food coloring (optional for buttercream)

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Sift together powdered sugar and almond flour in a bowl.
  • Whisk egg whites until soft peaks form, then gradually add granulated sugar until you achieve stiff peaks.
  • Fold the almond flour mixture into the egg whites until the batter looks thick and lava-like.
  • Pipe heart shapes onto parchment paper and let them rest for 30 minutes.

Baking

  • Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C) and bake for 18-20 minutes.

Buttercream Preparation

  • Beat softened butter, mix in powdered sugar, and add vanilla and salt.
  • Adjust with cream for the right consistency.

Assembly

  • Once the shells are cooled, pipe buttercream onto one shell and sandwich with another.
  • Chill in the fridge for at least 24 hours before serving.

Notes

Serve on a beautiful platter; pair with hot cocoa or rosé. For optimal flavor, chill them overnight.
