  • 1 pound ground beef or sausage You can use either beef or pork sausage.
  • 1 pound ground pork sausage Combine with beef for more flavor.
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup Can substitute with cream of chicken or a vegan cream sauce.
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese Feel free to use alternative cheeses.
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder Enhances flavor.
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder Adds depth to the taste.
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper Adjust according to taste.
  • 1 package cocktail rye bread Use for serving the mixture.

Preparation

  • In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef or sausage until browned. Drain excess fat.
  • Stir in the cream of mushroom soup, cheddar cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper until well mixed.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Spread a slice of cocktail rye bread on a baking sheet and top each with the meat mixture.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Can make ahead, assemble, and bake when ready.
