Ingredients
  

Casserole Base

  • 1 loaf 1 loaf bread (about 12 slices, preferably day-old or stale) Stale bread soaks up the egg mixture better.
  • 8 large 8 large eggs
  • 2 cups 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoons 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon 1/4 teaspoon salt

Serving Suggestions

  • 1/2 cup 1/2 cup maple syrup (optional for serving) Optional for serving.
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting, optional) Optional, but adds a nice touch.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish lightly with butter or cooking spray.
  • Cut your bread into 1-inch cubes and spread them evenly in the dish.
  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt.
  • Pour the egg mixture over the bread cubes, pressing down gently to help the bread absorb the mixture.
  • Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or overnight for better flavor.

Baking

  • Remove the plastic wrap and bake for about 45 minutes or until the top is golden brown.
  • Let it cool for 5-10 minutes, then slice it and serve.

Notes

Serve warm with fresh fruit, whipped cream, or a drizzle of syrup. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
