Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 3 small oranges or tangelos Approximately 18–20 slices total
  • 3 cups granulated sugar
  • 3 cups water

Instructions

Preparation

  • Slice your oranges into ΒΌ-inch rounds using a sharp knife or a mandoline.
  • In a saucepan, combine sugar and water, heating until sugar dissolves and the syrup boils.
  • Reduce heat to a gentle simmer. Add the orange slices in a single layer. Simmer for 45–60 minutes, turning occasionally, until the peel is translucent.
  • Remove slices with tongs and arrange them on a wire rack. Let them dry uncovered at room temperature for 24–48 hours until they're tacky but set.
  • Optional: Roll in sugar for that frosted finish, or dip in melted chocolate and sprinkle with flaky salt.

Notes

Ensure even slices for uniform cooking. You can try adding a splash of vanilla extract or a pinch of ginger for variation. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for about 2 weeks or in the fridge for longer shelf life.
