Cheese Sauce Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons butter Melt in a saucepan.
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour Stir into melted butter.
  • 2 cups milk Whisk in gradually to form a sauce.
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese The star ingredient.

Topping Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs For a crispy topping.

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Cook the elbow macaroni according to package instructions until al dente; drain and set aside.

Making the Cheese Sauce

  • In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute.
  • Gradually whisk in the milk and cook until the sauce thickens.
  • Remove from heat and stir in the shredded cheese until melted. Season with salt and pepper.

Combining and Baking

  • Combine the cooked macaroni with the cheese sauce in a baking dish.
  • Top with breadcrumbs.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes or until bubbly and golden on top.
