Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature Room temperature butter is ideal for mixing.
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed light-brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs

Chocolate Chips

  • 2 cups semisweet and/or milk chocolate chips Mixing types is encouraged for varied flavor.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C).
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the flour and baking soda; set aside.
  • In a large bowl, using an electric mixer, beat the butter and sugars on medium speed until light and fluffy, about 2 minutes.
  • Add the salt, vanilla, and eggs; mix until combined.
  • Gradually add the flour mixture; mix until just combined.
  • Stir in the chocolate chips.

Baking

  • Drop tablespoon-sized balls of dough onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  • Bake until the edges are golden brown, about 10-12 minutes.
  • Let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature to keep them soft and chewy for up to a week. For freezing, shape and freeze the dough on a baking tray, then transfer to freezer bags.
