Ingredients
  

Pasta

  • 2 cups elbow macaroni Cook according to package instructions.

Cheeses

  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded

Sauce Base

  • 2 tablespoons butter Melt in a saucepan.
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour Mix with butter to create a roux.
  • 2 cups milk Gradually add to the roux.

Seasonings

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • to taste Salt and pepper

Topping

  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs Optional for crispy topping.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Cook the elbow macaroni according to package instructions; drain and set aside.

Making the Cheese Sauce

  • In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  • Stir in the flour and cook for about 1-2 minutes.
  • Gradually whisk in the milk and keep cooking until the sauce thickens.
  • Remove from heat and stir in the cheddar and mozzarella cheese until melted.
  • Add garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper to the cheese sauce.

Combining and Baking

  • Mix the cooked macaroni with the cheese sauce until every noodle is covered.
  • Transfer to a baking dish, sprinkle with breadcrumbs if desired, and bake for 25-30 minutes until bubbly and golden.

Notes

Serve as a main dish or side. Pairs well with a salad or garlic bread. Can store in the fridge for 3-5 days or freeze for up to 3 months. Add a splash of milk when reheating to keep creamy.
